Private Accounts No More?

This article seems to indicate that private Social Security accounts - a great idea whose time has come - are all but dead. It will be interesting to see what form this legislation takes. My biggest problem with Social Security is that, instead of creating wealth, it simply redistributes it. If the lower- and middle-classes are going to be lifted up from constant financial burdens, they must save money and have ownership over those savings. Private accounts allowed true wealth creation by taking advantage of diversified investment opportunities. I honestly think that the Democratic party wants to keep its constituents in a static financial position, lest they move up and begin supporting Republican initiatives.
